Getting Ideas
Ideas can come from anywhere. This article has been written to prove that it is almost impossible to run out of ideas.
- Brainstorming is quite a well known and old technique that everyone recognises, but how many people actually use this technique? Never underestimate the power of pen and paper. Writing down one key word and then generate a other words relating to the key word is a great way to come up with design concepts.
- Drawing ideas from the world around you can help come up with ideas and a feel in a design. These ideas can stem from something as simple as the seasons, bathroom tiles, wardrobe, food, school, pets … virtually anything.
- Magazines and newspapers are buzzing with design concepts and issues that you might like to carry into a design.
- Hobbies and interests can influence the ideas generated in a design. For instance, a person interested in scrapbooking can integrate scrapbooking techniques to their designs.
- Personal experiences are priceless. Whether they are good or bad, thinking about that situation and the feelings related to them will assist in the design process.
- Inside jokes are all powerful. Not only can someone create a design based on something amusing leaving the rest of the world to ponder, but there’s a great sense of accomplishment.
- Stories, fairy tales and quotes can be used to provide a theme for a design or a few catch phrase lines.
- Music is a popular approach. Choose artists and songs that you love most to create a layout. The more you love it, the better your layout will turn out.
- Taking requests or asking friends for ideas is not a bad idea. This way will reveal what your friends have been anticipating the most.
- The most important thing is love, if you don’t love what you are doing – you won’t enjoy it as much and as a result the idea won’t be as great. Don’t ever be afraid to take a breather to absorb the world around you.

yes i get some inspiration from quotes, intrests and books – sometimes if i like the layout or colour scheme of a front cover of a book then I try to recreate to a layout that or the cover of a dvd to a wallpaper
If i’m looking for ideas i surf the net, visit fan sites for things that intrest me because they always have great gallery sections for images to use and sometimes fanart which you can use
some people also browse for stock photos, turning stock photos into graphics, thats a good i idea, but i don’t use it. My graphics are always fan art of things i’m interested in.
